Cameroon: Dr. Christopher Fomunyoh named “Man of the Year”

This was during 10th anniversary celebrations of Cameroon’s rising and most authoritative English language weekly newspaper, The Herald Tribune on Friday June 25, 2021.

It was an opportunity for the Publisher of the progressing newspaper Richard Nde Lajong to recognize the work of some Cameroonians and institutions that have impacted their Communities in particular and the nation in general.

Amongst these were Dr Christopher Fomunyoh who received The Herald Tribune’s 10th Anniversary Man of The Year for his constant reaching out to the Anglophone crisis refugees living in Nigeria despite health and security challenges. Dr Christopher Fomunyoh who is also Africa coordinator for the National Democratic Institute, NDI, a US-based NGO was represented at the ceremony by the former mayor of Batibo, Tanjoh Fred.

Delivering Dr Fomunyoh’s message, said he was moved that Cameroonians in general and readers of The Herald Tribune were able to recognise his efforts; a thing he thought he was doing in silence. He called on other laureates of the recognition to take it as a stepping stone to do more for the society.

Other laureates included the General Manager of the Hydrocarbons Price Stabilisation Fund, HPSF, who alongside his counterpart of Port Authority of Douala were distinguished independently for their brilliant management of State Corporations. HPSF was distinguished as Best Managed Public Corporation: For demonstrating unmatched transparent management style and ensuring price stability in petroleum products since the partial shutdown of SONARA. CSPH as it is also known in its French acronym was represented at the ceremony by Paschal Le of the Communications and Public Relations Directorate of CSPH.

The Port Authority of Douala on her part was distinguished as the 2020 Best Public Corporation; for exhibiting a never-seen transparent management style and for acquiring five nautical vessels for dredging along the main ports into Cameroon.

In the media category, one of CRTV’s flagship programme, Press Hour was also distinguished as the best TV debate programme, Mbuh Stella of Equinoxe television as best regional reporter, Albert Njie Mbonde of CRTV as best radio news presenter and Agborem Solomon of The Sun newspaper. Peace crusader and international legal luminary, Ntumfor Barrister Nico Halle was also recognised by The Herald Tribune for his efforts to bring peace amongst belligerents for the past two decades. Present at the joint ceremony, were other newspaper publishers in Cameroon, Journalists of many media organs in the country, the National President of the Cameroon Association of English-Speaking Journalists (CAMASEJ), awardees and other guests that came to join in celebration of the ten years of existence of The Herald Tribune.

Speaking during the Award Night, the Publisher of the English language daily, The Guardian Post, said the publisher if The Herald Tribune could go this far it is because of his humility and his willingness to learn. He appreciated his efforts in taking the newspaper to where it is presently. He also encouraged him to keep the good work for the newspaper to go further than its present level.
